Exploring the Heart and Practice of Connection in an Age of Distraction and Disconnection
We are all “soft”-wired to connect, but we become so easily disconnected in our daily lives, through life stressors--the external circumstances--but also, more insidiously, through our internal states, our old stories of pain and the ways in which we may have learned to close off parts of ourselves for preservation and protection. We may deeply long to connect, and yet find ourselves keeping our loved ones at arm’s length. Or we may assume connection is a lengthy, time-consuming exercise, when, in fact, it is as poignantly simple as non-verbal language. How can we ‘re-learn’ our language of connection within ourselves so we can re-connect with our children in the day-to-day bustle of “managing” our lives from the outside in? We’ll look at the neuroscience of re-wiring our brains from reactive to ‘regulated’ and connected, explore the ‘empathy continuum’, as well as the heart (and art) of connection in a way that creates resonance and resilience in our families.
