Most people would agree that parenting is not a game of strategy and clever moves. And yet, millions of parents have bought into the notion that, in the absence of a manual, we can have the next best thing: a list of how-to’s and approaches to raise a child, to “discipline,” ward off “difficult behavior,” manage our kids reactions and emotions so that they give us “as little trouble as possible” and make it easier to parent them so they “turn out the way we want them to.”

But, parenting is not a chess game. Of course, we all know this in our hearts, but we all recognize that we lose sight of this along the way, for many reasons. Fear and anxiety tend to mess with our best intentions and deepest convictions. How can we develop self-trust? How may we trust in our children’s nature and work together? How do we parent with both in times of doubt, chaos and stress?

In this course, we’ll explore the story behind our chess game, and discover what it means to parent without a script--not because we have all the answers, but because we don’t need them in order to love, guide and teach our children...who don’t have the answers either and yet teach us daily how to parent. These aren’t about the right moves, but about what moves us from the inside-out. We explore the power and practice of mindful awareness in our day-to-day parenting.
